Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the crust

Pie Crust

If you're using a store-bought pie crust, follow the instructions for pre-baking it. If you're making your own crust, roll out the dough and place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and prick the bottom of the crust with a fork. Bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside to cool.

Step 2: Slice the bananas

Sliced Bananas

Peel the bananas and slice them into even rounds. Set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the filling

Milk

  1. Combine the evaporated milk, whole milk, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Heat the mixture until it begins to steam, but don't let it come to a boil.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks.
  3. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the bowl with the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.
  4. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until it thickens and bubbles. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Step 4: Layer the filling and bananas

Layered Pie

  1. Pour half of the filling into the cooled pie crust.
  2. Place a layer of sliced bananas on top of the filling.
  3. Pour the remaining filling on top of the bananas.
  4. Arrange another layer of sliced bananas on top of the filling.

Step 5: Chill and serve

Chilled Pie

  1. Cover the pie with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Before serving, top with whipped cream if desired.

That's it! Your delicious banana cream pie is ready to serve. Enjoy!
